Edvard Munch's iconic painting of The Scream was pastel painted in the late 18th century, The Norwegian artist kept a diary, where he admits that he struggled with insanity through his family as well as himself. Munch painted the scream in 1893, when his sister was hospitalised for insanity at the time. Munch expressed many of his feelings and inner troubles through his pastel painting of the scream. This gives the painting a more personal meaning and is has a real technical skill instead of just being a beautiful painting.
Many artists believe that the meaning of the scream is to show how people could hear all the cries from the dying animals in the slaughterhouses and mentally ill people from the hospital, which were both near by. So the meaning of the scream is very ugly, people even suggest that the hot warm colours representing the sunset are also symbolised as blood. The expression of how he painted it (none of the lines being straight, man in black, not very neat..) could represent his feelings at the times, as if his life had no real direction and just kept going round in circles. The man being in black could represent his feelings being low, dark so there's almost a sandiness about the screaming man.
My recreations of The Scream-
I tried to recreate the scream with the two people behind, disappearing railings, and a man screaming. I used a small aperture to try and make all your focus go to the screaming man. The only thing I don't like about this recreation is the fact you cant see the railing disappearing behind the screaming man.
The reason I prefer this re-creation of the screaming because you can see the rails disappearing in the background, and still most your focuses goes the the screaming man. However even though I` used the same aperture I don't think it worked as well here.
Peter Gabriel's- Sledgehammer
Peter Gabriel’s sledge hammer video was released in 1986 and it was massive hit, especially in Canada. Peter Gabriel won many awards for sledgehammer including Grammy awards: best male vocal performance, song of the year and record of the year. The music video itself won a few awards including best British video of the year at the Brit awards and then 8 1996 MTV video music awards, the most awards one music video has ever won. It took a week to create the music video with peter working long hours to get every frame of the animation right. The animation was directed by Stephen R. Johnson and produced by Adam Whittaker.
Personally I like the Sledgehammer video, as many people do. I think it’s a very creative music video and especially like the part with the dancing cooked chickens and when peter is surrounded by moving furniture.
Storyboards of planned SMA'S.

After we decided that we wanted to do a snail race, we created a storyboard which helped us create the story line and how the snail race would go. We planned for the snails to start the race well, a few over takes to happen and then the snails to be on the winner's podium. We were able to plan how many photos we were going to take on each event which was really helpful when it came down to making are animation.
Ansel Adams-
Ansel Adams was born in February 20 1902, and lived till April of 1984. He was a very successful American photographer and environmentalist. He is most famous for producing black and white landscape photographs of America. He often used large format cameras so he could ensure his images were sharp. Ansel also aimed to created depth in his photographs.
This is my favourite photograph taken by Ansel Adams because I like how my eyes are taken straight to the mountains in the background, and then you notice what's going on in the fore ground and how the river moves.
This photograph is called the Tetons and the snake river, which was taken in 1942.
This photograph is called the Tetons and the snake river, which was taken in 1942.
Another photograph I like taken by Ansel Adams is his close up on a flower that looks to be a rose.

I love this photograph because it shows the texture in both the wood the flower is placed on and in the petals of the flower. The sharpness in this photograph is extremely good because you can see every crease in each petal along with every twirls of the wood.
The reason I love this photograph so much is because its just such a sharp images which gives you a great depth of field of the sand, the lighting is also really harsh which gives you great shadows, this also adds to the texture of the sand because each ridge of and shadows the next which makes the photograph something unique. Overall I really love Ansel Adams style of photography and think most of his photographs are brilliant.
Andreas Gusky.
Andreas Gursky was born on the 15th of January 1955. Andreas sold a photograph of the rhien ii for £2,700,000 making it the most expensive photograph every sold in 2011.

I like this photograph of the ice rink because again everything is constructed, and I feel this photograph gives you the design of the room, as you can clearly see how the building curves in and is shaped.
The reason I like this photograph by Andreas Gursky is because I like how you can see both how the buildings are built, and the buildings in the background. I would say the lighting is very soft as you can't see any shadows.
This are some of my own images that I have taken in the Docks.
These photographs that i have taken represent constructed and natural, these photographs are my favourite six from my first shoot around the docks.
This photograph had an aperture of f5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/25 of a second, I did not need to use a tripod to take this photograph as I had a faster shutter speed. This photograph is representing the constructed side of the docks.
This photograph is representing constructed and had an aperture of f5.6, and a shutter speed of 1/60 a second. For this photograph I did use a tripod
For the Photograph of the bark I used an aperture of f4 and a shutter speed of 1/60 a second. Thus photograph is representing
For this photograph representing natural forms around the docks I had an aperture of f5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/25 of a second, so there was no need for a tripod.
I have chosen these images because they are what I believe are my best photographs from the shoot around the docks.
The
Taylor Wessing photographic exhibition.
The winner of the 2013 Taylor Wessing exhibition
is Jordi rulz Cirera. Jordi won a huge prize of £12,000 for his photo of
margarita. Jordi’s description of the Photograph was ‘Almost all of the houses
have tables in front of their windows giving fantastic light to the scene.
Sitting in front of the camera was not easy for Margarita, photography is
forbidden for Mennonites and having her direct portrait taken was quite
difficult so I could only take two frames of her. Even though we were enjoying
the situation, Margarita posed with this sort of awkward expression.’
Personally I love Jordi’s photo of
Margarita, as he seems to have captured something that you don’t often get to
see. Also you can see in margarita face that she does feel a little
uncomfortable which also brings something to the photograph.
The 2nd prize goes to Jennifer
Pattision for her photo of her friend Lynne, which was taken in an empty
bedroom of one of their houses. Lynne is standing naked against the wall while
holding a chipped china cup. When Jennifer was asked about her photograph she
said ‘There is an
interesting shift in the consciousness of the sitter during the slow process of
making these portraits; a moment in the quiet where they become unaware that
they are naked. I capture them as they drift to another place. With no
direction Lynne adopted this straightforward pose, bare and undaunted, looking
straight down the lens and beyond. Personally I don’t like Jennifer’s
photograph, as I don’t think all the elements come together quite right, I do
however think its q good photograph and that the lighting is really good in
this photograph.
3rd place goes to Spencer
Murphy, who won a good prize of £2000. Spencer gained a BA
in Photography at the Falmouth College of Arts when he was younger and has been
in the Taylor wessing portrait prize six times before this however this was the
first time he’s ever won a prize.
When asked about his photograph Spencer said, ‘I’ve always enjoyed working
with actors as there’s no awkwardness or discomfort in front of the camera and
they are able to understand direction and react to it very easily. Mark was no
exception.’ Personally I like Spencer Murphy photograph because the lighting
really brings him out in the photograph, and it’s very simple.
Photographs that I like-

perpective is when there is horizontly lines and they slowly meet in the distants, like this railway line for example.

Here are my own drawnings repersenting perpective.
And here are some of my own photographs of perspective. We were asked to take these photographs to show that we understand how perpective works as it can be a important part of photography.
Final Evaluation -
I really enjoyed this topic because i find it interesting researching different photographers and learning more about themselves and there work. I didn't really find this unit difficult because it is mainly based on people you've had to research and your opions of there work. My favourite part was probably going to the taylor wessing gallery, as i enjoyed seeing all the photographs on displayed and learning and reading up on the backgrounds to each photograph. My least favourite part was probably drawing about perspective, just because my drawings skills aren't as good as i wish. Overall i really enjoyed this unit, and found it very interesting.
Doc martins research-
Doc Martens are a footwear for both men and women, mainly boot styled which are made out of leather. The shoe's are also known as Doctor Martens, Docs or DMS. The shoes didn't have too much success until late 1940's. Now the shoes are really propaluar as fashion shoe's, the icon doc ,marten shoe is a black boot made of leather with yellow sems.
Jeans-
jeans were first made for workers in the 18th centery but only in the last 70 years have they became a fashion statement. The average pair of jeans cost around £30-£45. Jeans are for people of all ages and for both men and women.
.here are some jeans advertisments that i like-
Here are my own jeans advertisments -
I really Enjoy doing this assimeant, i enjoyed working with my model and feel like i got some good images. The only thing that i found difficult was finding a place to put the logo's. I feel like in the first image i should of placed it somewhere where it was more visable.
Photographers
Gallery.Home
truths.
Janine Antoin, Elina Brotherus, Elinor carucci, Ana Casa Broda, Fred Huning, Leigh ledare, Katie Murray and Hanna Putz. The home truths portfolio includes insights to- motherhood, photography and identity. The Gallery was laid out very nicely. There was lots of natrual light coming in, all the walls were nice clean and white without even a mark on. The were specail lights to shine on the photographs to make them catch your attetion.
The
idea for this portfolio was to embrass the truth of what goes on at home, the
strain on mother’s bodies, how some people can be embarrassed and feel
discomfort. The artist’s we’re trying to express the truths of parenting.I
personally don’t like this range of photographs. I find they don’t tell the
whole truth about motherhood and what goes on in the home. The Artist have
mainly focused on the mother, who is nude in every photograph. I don’t feel as
though the photographers got across both sides to parenting, they only show the
mother looking strained and tried, when there is a happier side to being a
mother. Even though I dislike this portfolio, I do think
the artist were very creative and had really interesting lighting for each
photograph. In some photographs its very light.
The reason i don't like this Photograph is because even though she's covered in her children's drawings, she looks really dark and unhappy. I also feel like the drawings aren't really children's drawings. Personally i find this photograph a little disturbing and is not my taste in photography. However this photograph does make you think about the story behind the lady and why she is unhappy.
The photograph below is probably my favorite out of this portfolio but its still not my taste in photography. The reason i like this photograph more than the others is because its a little more tasteful, the women is showing her love to her newborns and is showing motherhood well. I personally think this is a more accurate vision of what mother hood is like.

I really like the setting of the photograph below, as because the lady s naked i would expect to see her in a bath room, which she's not. Instead she's sat in a room which doesn't seem to have any furniture with a shadow of someone in the room next door. I like how random the photograph is, with the tiles on the wall, to the china cup by her feet. The lighting in the photograph is good too, the room she is sat in is very bright and clear, but the rooms behind are dark and its difficult to make things out, like the shadow, you are unable to tell if it is a man or woman, which could bring some suspense to the photograph.
The photograph below is very sweet, i like the harshness of the lighting and the simplify of the photograph. It shows something very beautiful that a mother shares with her child. The light is shining directly on to the woman and child's face which really makes them glow and my eye goes straight to them before exploring the rest of the photograph.
Even though i did enjoy visiting this photographs gallery, i found most of the photographs not to my taste. However i did find it very interesting looking into the different aspects and creatively that can be express through Photography.
JACQUES HENRI LARTIGUE
Bibi
The exhibition focuses on photographs from the 1920s, it focuses on the life of Bibi and his first wife and only child. The photographer Gallery was the first place to ever publish this portfolio international and open to the public. The photographs are mainly all black and white, and include lovely photographs of when Bibi and his wife went to visit London. The photographs almost tell the story of Bibi and his wife's life together, from early happy years, to being parents up to there divorce.
I really love this photograph, its very realistic and even her expression makes you believe this photograph is real. As it doesn't look staged at all, it makes you think of the story that could be behind this photograph, she's in a dress so she could possibly be on a night out, at a restaurant.. a date? i also like the angle of this photograph, if it was taken looking straight onto the women i dont think it would of been as good because you wouldn't be able to see the room and the bath tub.
This photograph is very nice because it shows what young ladies use to do for fun back in the 1920's. You can see the girls are generally enjoying themselves. The photograph suits being in black and white, obviously when it was taken black and white was the only option, but i really think this photograph would not look as good in colour.
This photograph really shows what paris used to be like, its can be seen as very historic as its capture a moment in time. I like the angle of the camera, and how instead of looking at the table and chairs straight on you have a diagonal look down the outside of the restaurant.
The photograph below reminds me of titanic, everything looks so grand. I love how the light is shining through the Window onto the chairs, its captured what a lovely day is was.
Overall i like this portfolio, the photographs are really nice and show a happy life that was lived in the 1920's.
Wildlife photographer of the year.
The winner of the wildlife photographer of the year 2013 was awarded to greg du toit, who lives in south africa.
He won the awarded for his photograph of some african elephants. He quotes 'I've always wanted to capture their special energy and there state of consciousness'.
He used a titled wide0 angle lens to create atmosphere and had a narrow aperture to create a depth of field so tha elephants in the back ground would also be in focus.
His camera- Nikon D3s, 1/30 sec at f22.
My favourite Photograph from the Gallery was a Photographers photograph of a mouse swinging through the wheat. I love the shallow aperture and how everything is slightly out of focus expect the mouse. It really captures my eye.
This brillant photograph was taken bye Etieene Francey, in Switzerland capture the mouse when he was walking through his village last one evening, when he spotted some movement between the field. he said 'I was very surprised to see the little harvest mouse chewing on some wheat, i believe it to be my best work as soon as i had taken the photo.'
Another great photo for the gallery was this polar bear, just capture as he is returning up from the freezing ice pools. I believe this photograph really shows of the beauty of these animals. The photograph was taken on the 11th of july, 2012 using a Canon 7D camera, 10-22mm lens. The idea was to capture the polar bears in the nature environment without the influence of tourist, so the photographer even borrowed his own boat to go right into the depths of the icy sea to capture these amazing images.
