Unit 5 contextual Influences

Paul M Smith-

Paul smith is a course directer coventry university. He had a short army career before becoming a photographs, and his first ever portfolio was based on his time in the army. Paul smith is known for being very creative and having very good photoshop skills, he edits himself into one photograph several times. In his career he has one many awards including 'serco competetion' where he came first.
Smith also did a big shoot with Robbie williams, Robbie had seen Smiths work and was inspired to do something like that for his album cover.

This photograph is one of my favourite from his portfolio based on his army career. I really think this is a nice personal subject to him so i think its nice that he expressed this through his photography.

I also really like this photograph as i understand that it must of took a lot of work on photoshop to have to edit in so many of yourself. Paul has ten of himself in this photograph.

Here Paul is showing off his photoshop skills, this was originally himself, but he photoshop around that to make he look like david Beckham. This takes great skill on photoshop as he had to change the face shape, hair line, lips ect..

This is the album cover for his shoot with Robbie Willaim's.  Robbie wanted this to go with his album 'sing when your winning'. I really like this photograph as clearly Robbie is pretending to have just won a football match and looks very real.

This is another photograph that Smith has based round his army career. This portfolio however was based on the 'lads nights out'. I really like this photograph because it shows Smiths creativity.

Overall i really like Paul's Smiths photography, i think he has a really cool style which suits him and his personality well.

Ansel Adams-

Ansel Adams was born in February 20 1902, and lived till April of 1984. He was a very successful American photographer and environmentalist. He is most famous for producing black and white landscape photographs of America. He often used large format cameras so he could ensure his images were sharp. Ansel also aimed to created depth in his photographs.

This is my favourite photograph taken by Ansel Adams because I like how my eyes are taken straight to the mountains in the background, and then you notice what's going on in the fore ground and how the river moves.
This photograph is called the Tetons and the snake river, which was taken in 1942.

Another photograph I like taken by Ansel Adams is his close up on a flower that looks to be a rose.

I love this photograph because it shows the texture in both the wood the flower is placed on and in the petals of the flower. The sharpness in this photograph is extremely good because you can see every crease in each petal along with every twirls of the wood.

The reason I love this photograph so much is because its just such a sharp images which gives you a great depth of field of the sand, the lighting is also really harsh which gives you great shadows, this also adds to the texture of the sand because each ridge of and shadows the next which makes the photograph something unique. Overall I really love Ansel Adams style of photography and think most of his photographs are brilliant.

Andreas Gusky.

Andreas Gursky was born on the 15th of January 1955. Andreas sold a photograph of the rhien ii for £2,700,000 making it the most expensive photograph every sold in 2011.

The reason I have chosen this photograph to write about is because I feel that it is a very modern photograph, with the supermarket shelves all stacked up with food and drinks for people to buy. Everything in this photo has been made by man, the building, the packaging for all the items and even most of the food. I would say that this photograph has quite a swallow depth of field, as I can only really make out details of what each item might be on the first two rows.

I like this photograph of the ice rink because again everything is constructed, and I feel this photograph gives you the design of the room, as you can clearly see how the building curves in and is shaped.

The reason I like this photograph by Andreas Gursky is because I like how you can see both how the buildings are built, and the buildings in the background. I would say the lighting is very soft as you can't see any shadows.
